General Information
The Department of Archaeology and Tourism offers a Four-Year B.A. Honours degree programme in Archaeology or Tourism for the entrance candidates; a three-year B.A. Honours degree in Archaeology or Tourism; a two-year Diploma in Tourism and Museum Studies; and a one-year PGD programme in Tourism and Museology. The department runs combined honours programmes with History, Sociology/ Anthropology and Linguistics.

The Department of English offers three kinds of programmes:

The Department of Fine and Applied Arts offers programme leading to the award of a B.A., degree in Fine and Applied Arts with specialization in studio art, art history and art education.
The duration of the degree programme is four years for candidates who gain admission by JAMB entrance examination and three years for candidates who possess the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and the General Certificate of Education (A/Level) or the National Diploma.

The Department offers a four-year B.A Honours degree programme in History and International Studies for students admitted by entrance examination, and a three-year B.A. Honours degree programme for students admitted by direct entry. In this programme International Studies means aspect of world politics and economy.

Philosophy, Objectives and Scope of the Programme
The founder of the University of Nigeria believed that there was need to train Nigerians locally, and sufficient in number for the formidable task of information and guiding contemporary and future generations. On the basis of this philosophy, the University had as one of its original curricula a degree offering in communication education.
